The web portal European History publishes material – texts, statistics, images and maps – as well as accounts of and views on the history of Europe and the Europeans from the 18th century until today. It approaches the history of Europe and of “Europeanness” from various perspectives – comparative, transfer and “entangled” history between nationalization and globalization. The web portal does not propose a “total history” but rather follows a problem focused approach. Examining and interpreting the past and looking for answers to specific questions is what the web portal’s authors are trying to do.
The web portal is a technical and organizational online platform. It provides access to historical information relevant for research and teaching. It shall serve historians and researchers and students from other social and cultural academic disciplines as well as for the general public. The content is modular and topic focused in order to suit the need of research and teaching at universities, academic institutions and schools of higher education.
