    Am Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts kamen die Abgeordneten des Landtags (Sabor) des Königreichs Kroatiens, Slawoniens und Dalmatiens einige Male auf das Thema Emigration zu sprechen. Dies war nicht weiter verwunderlich angesichts der Dimension der Amerikaauswanderung aus Kroatien. Gemäß der offiziellen Emigrationsstatistik wanderten von 1899 bis 1914 rund 207.000 Menschen aus Kroatien aus, davon mehr als 170.000 nach Nordamerika, wobei noch viel mehr Emigrationspässe ausgestellt wurden. Kroatien stand damit nicht alleine, sondern spiegelte den Gesamttrend der Habsburger Monarchie wider, die Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts zum wichtigsten Sendeland von Einwanderern in die USA geworden war. Mehrfach forderten Abgeordnete des kroatischen Landtags die Landesregierung mit Interpellationen auf, in das Emigrationsgeschehen einzugreifen. [...]
