Die Verbilligung des teuren Fernsehprogramms (in Deutschland rund 250 Mark pro Minute) durch einen europäischen Programmaustausch ist der Lieblingsplan einiger deutscher und ausländischer Intendanten. Die Engländer erprobten die Idee schon 1952, als sie aus Paris Übertragungen von den Festlichkeiten des Nationalfeiertags (14. Juli) brachten. Da die Techniker mittlerweile auch das Problem der Zeilenumsetzung, das zunächst wie eine unüberwindliche Mauer vor dem internationalen Austausch stand, gelöst hatten, wurden rasch weitere Pläne entwickelt. Die englische Krönung, die außer in England auch in Frankreich, Holland und Deutschland zu sehen war, wurde zum Fernseh-Höhepunkt des vergangenen Sommers und ließ die Zahl der in Betrieb befindlichen Empfänger überall steigen. It burns up and destroys the old, clears the way for the new, elevates and in ascending the steps towards perfection asserts new forms of life that have more brightly embraced the light and exist in consonance and harmony with the whole – a flaming bird, a Phoenix, which rises from its own ashes again and again, more beautiful and fiery, striving towards the future.
