The call of light, of beauty and daring has brought us here today to this Assembly, to bestow upon us the joy of friendship, of inspiration and discovery, to elevate our thoughts and strivings more purely and boldly towards the world of the beautiful. The Universe has been created according to the laws of beauty, and it is according to the laws of beauty that mankind is called upon to live. The imperative of evolution, the inevitability of development, the necessity for perfection keep the fire of life forever burning. It burns up and destroys the old, clears the way for the new, elevates and in ascending the steps towards perfection asserts new forms of life that have more brightly embraced the light and exist in consonance and harmony with the whole – a flaming bird, a Phoenix, which rises from its own ashes again and again, more beautiful and fiery, striving towards the future.
The F.I.F.A. Congress in Rome has proved the absolute necessity for strengthening the continent Organisations by clearly defining their relationship with F.I.F.A. and the National Associations: to solve these questions the Congress extraordinary in London in 1961 must prove both dedicated and decisive.[...]

A segregated Germany, which developed in a manner unrelated to Western Europe would constitute a danger to Western Europe and our objectives. Economically, the interrelationship of Germany and the rest of Western Europe is so close and Germany’s economic potential so great that if it were again to pursue a policy of seeking only its own economic well-being and the greatest degree of autarchy, it might well dominate Western Europe.[...]
Der Weltkrieg und besonders der auf ihn folgende "Friede", den man heute noch mit Anführungszeichen schreiben muß, haben den Glauben an die "zivilisierte Menschheit" erschüttert und vielen die Augen geöffnet. Wir Russen befinden uns natürlich in einer besonderen Lage. Wir waren Zeugen des plötzlichen Zusammenbruchs dessen, was wir die "russische Kultur" nannten. Viele von uns überraschte die Schnelligkeit und Leichtigkeit, mit der sich dies vollzog, und viele begannen, über die Ursachen dieser Erscheinung nachzusinnen. (...)
